The phrase 'Till death do us part' is meaningless to many couples as they are always eager to get done with the vows and move on to the wedding bed.
But for the few people who are conscious of the vows they are taking as they are about to be joined in holy matrimony to the bone of their bone and the flesh of their flesh, they will take their time to look inward and ponder on what this line truly means.
An old couple have become the gist of the town after pictures of them holding hands on their death bed surfaced. 88-year-old Trent Winstead and 83-year-old Dolores Winstead have been married for 64 years. This adorable couple from Tennessee died 5 weeks to their 64th wedding anniversary in Saint Thomas West Hospital, Nashville.
Trent and Dolores holding hands
Their story is sad and touching but for the young people getting married, it is a story of love. A true life story that will be useful for every marriage in as much as the concerned persons are ready to draw the lessons from it.
There are so many individuals who giggle all through the time the vows are being exchanged. They find one thing or the other that amuse them and keep grinning sheepishly when they ought to ponder on the words and pray for divine guidance as they start a new phase in life.
The life lived after a wedding is a different ball game entirely; there would be hurdles on the way. There would be happy moments that will make you become more confident of the choice you have made. There would be times you will have doubts and consider running out. But perseverance is a major key that will help you open and lock different doors.
We are used to seeing couples celebrate their wedding anniversaries in grand ways. We have to admit that 64 years of marriage is not common as life is not fair to us all. But then, irrespective of the years spent together in marriage, couples should be determined to make every moment worth it.
Trent and Dolores Winstead
Trent Winstead was admitted in the hospital because of his failing kidneys while Dolores, his wife was healthy. This couple had spent most of their lives by each other's sides. Blessed with two children, Eddie and Sheryl, their marriage had been nothing but bliss.
Dolores and her children watched Trent as his health failed at the intensive care unit where he was taken to. It was strange when Dolores complained of headache on December 7th and was admitted in the hospital.
It was discovered that she had a severe condition and needed to be supported with a ventilator. Soon after that, her condition began to deteriorate. The hospital staff then worked on putting her in the same room with her husband.
The couple held hands while they were lying side by side on the hospital beds. Dolores took her last breath then; her husband blew her a kiss after he was informed of her demise. A few hours later, Trent died.
Indeed, theirs is a story of true love. They did all they could to stick to the wedding vows they took when they got married. It will be right for one to say they sailed through the storms encountered in their marriage.
