- Frank Lampard has explained that he will be glad to return to Chelsea as a player
- The Englishman's contract with MLS side New York City has expired and he is currently in England
- Chelsea coach Antonio Conte is yet to react if he would sign him in January 2017
Erstwhile Chelsea attacking midfielder Frank Lampard has expressed his desire to make a return to Stamford bridge not as a coach, but as a player.
After spending two years at MLS side New York City, the 38-year-old is considering his options and stated that he would be glad to wear the blue jersey again.
Frank Lampard spent 13 years at Stamford bridge before leaving the club in the year 2014, but it is not yet clear if manager Antonio Conte would offer him a contract when the January 2017 transfer window opens.
'Definitely I would love to make a return as a player for Chelsea, but I really don't know how it would be, but it will be so nice for me to play for the club again.
''I will be very close with the club whether with my season ticket, but playing again for the club is all I want,'' Lampard said.
The former West Ham United star is Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer with 211 goals in all competition.
