And with the present economic situation, it will be difficult for those who are unemployed to cope. The importance of education can never be overemphasized; yet, Nigerian graduates feel depressed when they think about the hustle they must take part in outside the walls of the university before they can secure jobs.
A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has caused a stir on social media after pictures of him surfaced. This young man resorted to the production and sales of Masa which is known as Woina or Rice puff puff.
The young man took to this job after his futile and frantic search of job. The level at which he is producing this locally made Masa does not befit his academic qualification and exposure. He decided to start selling this puff-puff in order not to deviate from the humble path.
Many Nigerians have expressed their opinions over his choice of job as they keep wondering why he chose that of all trades. Some people were kind enough to support him by saluting his courage and the discipline he has. The latter group thinks this job of his is better than being a terrorist or a thief.
The young man said he has tried stooping low by agreeing to be paid a salary as low as N10k for teaching jobs. Sadly, no school or organisation has asked him to resume. Instead, the managers keep telling him they want to reduce the number of employed staffs they have.
This ABU graduate has not stopped developing himself as he has acquired skills in the production of bleach, disinfectant, liquid soap and so on. It is surprising how things got to this level for the young man.
While selling his Masa, he must have received lots of weird glances as people would be surprised to find him selling a product like that.
He has put aside his shyness and does not care whether his mates see him doing this or not. His survival instinct has made him put aside all sorts of sentiments while concentrating on his business.
This graduate seems to be a hardworking man given his patience with a business like this. The recession has affected him in every way, yet he is not willing to let depression push him into doing something that is not honourable.
Do you think this young man has made a mistake with the line of action he has taken?
